A 16-year-old boy shot dead near Racine high school

Mount Pleasant Police are investigating a shooting in the parking lot of the Delta Hotel on Wednesday afternoon in Mount Pleasant. Police found a 16-year-old boy with a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to an area hospital and was in serious but stable condition, police said. WISN 12 News has learned that the victim played football for Racine’s Case High School. The hotel, on Washington Avenue, is directly across from Case High School. The school was put on temporary lockdown, but the students were all released at their normal time, 2:45 p.m. “Well, it’s still very scary. I mean, my son is scared. didn’t know what was going on,” Jody Habel told WISN12 News. Her son, Carl Habel, a student at Case High School, told WISN 12 News they piled chairs against the door and huddled in the classroom, wondering what was going on. “I just finished having lunch. I was walking to my Spanish class, and that’s when I was told they were saying, ‘We’re in lockdown. Everyone closed their doors.” I was like, ‘What’s going on? What’s going on? Is this serious or a drill?’ “, said the high school student from Case. These questions, reflected by his mother. “It’s a very scary situation, a very scary thing. Wanting to go to school, but then we get a call from school like, don’t come, can’t pick up your students. They’re confined. You don’t you can’t do much at that time. You can’t get near the school. You can’t pick up your child. So it’s very scary because you’re thinking about what’s going to happen next,” said Habel..Carl described to WISN 12 News reporter Kendall Keys what he saw leaving the school on Wednesday afternoon looking for shell casings and investigating where it all happened there, Carl said: “I was wondering if he was okay, if he was going to be okay. “Well, it’s still very scary. I mean, my son is scared. He had been texting me since 1:30 p.m. just to say he was scared. He didn’t know what was going on,” Jody said. Habel at WISN12 News.
