Some of the most popular public schools in Mumbai offering counseling programs for all India can get additional seats in Kindergarten and Junior KG, making a total of 480 new seats for each class. These will be in addition to the 480 places in each class in 12 such schools across the city.
The CBSE/ICSE Section of BMC’s Education Department indicated additional admission in response to a letter from Education Committee Member Sainath Durge requesting the increase. “These 12 schools are receiving an overwhelming response from parents. Admissions to these schools are through a lottery process due to the huge response…Starting an additional division in these two classes is under consideration,” the letter from the Department of BMC education.
Of these selected schools, 11 are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and one offers an Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE). As admissions for the 2022-23 academic year have closed, there has been a request for an increase in the number of places in view of the high number of applications. Last year, over 10,000 applications were received for around 4,000 places.
“Currently, each school has a division for each class with 40 places. But with additional seats, each school will have one more division each. Now two divisions will continue for the upper classes,” Durge said. For two years, since BMC created these schools, admissions are only for kindergarten classes. With additional seats in Junior KG as well, admissions will also be granted in this class.
