CCP hosts ‘Black Family Reunion’ with performances by rap legend MC Lyte, 6lack and other artists – Pasadena Now

Pasadena City College (PCC) on Saturday, October 1 will host the “Black Family Reunion,” featuring live entertainment, black-owned food and craft vendors, and a resource activity fair showcasing the many ways in which the College can help support the success of Black Families and Students in Pasadena.

“We are very excited to host this year’s Black Family Reunion,” said [Dr. Kari Bolen, Associate Vice President and Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer]. “We want to make sure the black community sees Pasadena City College as an educational institution that understands the experiences and needs of black students. We also want them to learn about our trades and college transfer programs and know that there are student-centered resources available for all incomes.

The family-oriented event will run from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will feature performances from rap legend MC Lyte, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter 6lack, Pasadena native singer Quin and DJ Millie. Dining options include Rodney Ribs, The Cobbler Factory, DD’s Chick & Cat Shack, Fat Boys and more.

Admission is free and pre-registration is highly recommended. The event will allow guests to bring coolers and picnic baskets. Open flames, portable grills and alcohol are not permitted.

In a message to future Black Lancers, Stephán McGrue, Upward Bound Education Advisor and Black Family Reunion Entertainment Chair, shares that “PCC can really help our Black community succeed in anything. We have what you need to succeed in your academic and professional career.
