Champion Golden Flashes High School Girls’ Basketball Preview 2021-22

WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – The Champion women’s basketball program has been a consistent winner over the past five seasons.

The Golden Flashes have recorded 91 wins in that streak (2016-21) and likely would have been a bit more if it hadn’t been for the pandemic shortened season last year.

The Golden Flashes have graduated their top two scorers – Emma Gumont and Brooke Whitt – who each averaged double-digit points and clawed back more than six rebounds per game.

Coach Michael Cole sacks three of his top five scorers from a year ago, including senior Ava Howell (8.8 ppg, 3.4 apg, 2.4 rpg).

“We welcome back four players with a lot of college experience,” said Cole. “Ava [Howell], Mady Jones, Lordina Didrill and Bella Meyers all return. We will seek to integrate our young players who have also had success with our veterans. “

Coach Cole said, “Last year’s JV team lost a game and our new freshmen have never lost a high school game.

Ava Howell has scored over 120 points in each of the past two seasons and made 50 free throws in each of her second and junior years.

The season begins at Cortland in Lakeview on November 27.

“We expect to compete for the league and our district titles [this year]”Cole said.
