China’s Yong Peng High School receives record public donation of RM30 million

PETALING JAYA: China’s Yong Peng High School received a donation of RM30 million, the highest amount ever raised by the school.

Transport Minister MP Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong said on the matter that RM20 million was donated by brothers Ma Wong Ching and Ma On May, while another RM10 million was collected. through public donations.

The school, located in the Ayer Hitam constituency where Dr Wee is an MP, received the donations at its 65th anniversary dinner and fundraiser for the Chinese High School Education and Development Foundation of Yong Peng, Sunday September 18.

Dr. Wee thanked Wong Ching, who is also the board chairman of Yong Peng Chinese High School, for inviting him to attend the event.

“As MP for Ayer Hitam, it gives me great pleasure to be among the 2,400 guests present.

“This total of RM30 million makes it the highest fundraising record received by the school.

“Previously, the highest donation amount was RM26 million received by China Kuen Cheng High School in 2013,” Dr Wee said.

He added that the Johor state government has also allocated RM200,000 to the Yong Peng Chinese High School Education Foundation.

Also present at the event were Johor State exco and Yong Assemblyman Peng Ling Tian Soon, Johor State exco and Paloh Assemblyman Lee Ting Han and Bekok assemblyman Tan Chong.
