Expert Panel Discusses “Carbon Markets and Mechanisms” – September 21

The latest report from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change shows that to keep 1.5°C within reach, we need all the tools available – both public sector policies and private sector market solutions – to transition to a decarbonized world.

Join NYU’s Development Research Institute (NYUDRI) and Sustainable Economic and Climate Development Initiative (SECDEV) for a panel discussion on “Carbon Markets and Mechanisms” and a fireside chat on “Mobilizing capital to implement the EU’s Green New Deal” – Wednesday, September 21, at 14A Washington Mews, 1st Floor, New York, NY 10003. The event is open in person to members of the NYU community (faculty, students, staff). It is open to the general public via Zoom. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (ET).

PROGRAM:

10h00–11h20 Session 1: Carbon markets and mechanisms

Participate in a panel discussion where experts discuss the various tools of the private sector, ranging from a voluntary high-integrity carbon market to tradable indices to help raise urgently needed capital that can complement public sector climate policies . We will also see how a carbon tax could be an effective public sector tool to reduce and remove greenhouse gas emissions from our atmosphere.

Welcome remarks by Rajeev Dehejia, professor of public policy and professor of economics and co-director of the Development Research Institute at New York University.
