JACKSON – The Michigan high school golf season wrapped up last weekend and four Jackson-area athletes raised their level of play on the Biggest Stage and placed in the top 8 in their respective fields to win individual honors from all states.
Jackson High senior Justin Bunch, Leslie senior Cannon Risner, Hanover-Horton senior Brogan Brockie and Napoleon senior Evan Brzyski all finished with all-state honors, while the Hanover-Horton, Leslie and Hillsdale Academy teams finish in the Top 8 of the final team ranking.
Below is a full rundown of how each Jackson-area golfer performed in this weekend’s State Finals.
SECTION 1
Jackson High senior Justin Bunch was seventh overall with a score of 147 (73, 74) over two days in the Division 1 final at Forest Akers West in East Lansing.
SECTION 3
Leslie senior Cannon Risner was second in the Division 3 finals with a score of 145 (74, 71) over two days at the Meadows in Allendale. The Blackhawks were eighth overall as a team with a score of 660 (324, 336) over two days.
Senior Garrett Mays had a score of 165 (83, 82) over two days, Ayden Rutan had a 173 (84, 89), Jarrett Chappell finished with a 177 (83, 94) and John Cranmore added a 187 (92, 95).
The Hanover-Horton men’s golf team finished third overall with a score of 640 (321, 319) over two days, led by senior Brogan Brockie, who finished fourth overall with a score of 147 (73 , 74) over two days. Senior Kyler Rod had a 158 (78, 80), second Ryder Pickering a 162 (85, 77), second Brady Applegate a 173 (85, 88) and senior Jack Burmis a 198 (100, 98).
Napoleon senior Evan Brzyski finished seventh overall with a two-day score of 149 (78, 71), while Hillsdale senior Corbyn Beach had a 198 (96, 102).
SECTION 4
The Hillsdale Academy boys’ golf team finished sixth overall with a score of 703 (356, 347) over two days at Frankenmuth Fortress.
Rykert Frisinger led the Colts in netting a 158 (77, 81) to finish 11th overall, while first year Ridley Fast added a 177 (92, 85), Christian Gossage had a 180 (92, 88), Joel Mekelburg has a 188 (95, 93) and Jake Waldvogel added a 193 (99, 94).
East Jackson junior Ben Maino finished 18th overall with a score of 164 (79, 85) over two days.
