KP government allocates 144 billion rupees for primary and secondary education

The Khyber Pakthunkhwa government has allocated Rs. 144 billion for 105 primary and secondary education (E&S) projects in the 2022-23 provincial budget.

Finance Minister Taimur Khan Jhagra while presenting the budget to the KP Assembly said that Rs 17 billion was allocated for primary and secondary education under the Annual Development Plan (ADP).

Giving details on the mega school projects, he said the amount of Rs. 3.4 billion has been earmarked out of the total Rs. 36.6 billion for the establishment of 711 schools for boys and girls, adding that 3.2 billion rupees out of a total of 35.5 billion rupees allocated for the reconstruction of 1,318 schools.

The minister said that Rs.2.1 specified in the budget for upgrading 521 schools to standard and Rs.2.6 billion for upgrading 914 schools.

He said that this amount of Rs. 320 million allocated to donate basic amenities, supply of schoolbags and stationery. He also announced the allocation of Rs 500 million for scholarships for students from class 1 to class 8 in the merged districts.

The current budget includes Rs. 2 billion for purchase of furniture, Rs. 1 billion for second quarter classes, Rs. 2.4 billion for scholarships for students.
