East Jessamine High School baseball coach Erinn Thompson, who had been in hospital battling COVID-19, has died, school officials said in a social media post on Friday.
“Our hearts are broken as we share the news that we have lost our beloved coach Erinn Thompson. He fought every round but lost the battle, ”the post said.
“Its impact extends far beyond baseball fields or golf courses. The lives he touched are forever changed because of the perseverance and determination he has instilled in our students and our community, ”he said.
“You fought the good fight, Coach,” the post said. “We love you and we will miss you forever.”
The Jessamine Journal reported that Thompson was 47 years old.
Dozens of people gathered on December 23 at the East Jessamine High baseball field in Nicholasville to hold a vigil for Thompson and to support his family, which included his wife and sons.
The Mercer and Knott County high school baseball teams were among those who sent condolences to the team on Friday.
“A heavy heart today for the family of Erinn Thompson and the East Jessamine family and baseball school,” said a Twitter post from the Mercer County High School Titans. “Erinn was from Harrodsburg and a wonderful person who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.”
