The Lathrop Malemutes now own two high school football championships in Alaska. On Saturday, LHS defeated Soldotna 21-18 for the school’s second straight Division II state championship.

Lathrop entered the No. 2 ranked game in High School Football America Alaska’s Top 5. Soldotna was ranked No. 3.

According to the Alaska Sports Report, Lathrop used a solid ground game that rushed for 311 yards in the title game. The Malemutes did it by using rotating quarterbacks on every other possession.

Lathrop has now beaten Soldotna back to back for the title. The 2021 win ended Soldotna’s eight-straight state championship streak.

Lathrop finishes a perfect 10-0. Soldotna closes 2022 with a score of 9-1.
