Local Houston Tasting Tour Hosted by ‘Top Chef’ Finalist Evelyn García, Henry Lu Highlights Local Chefs and Innovative Cuisines

HOUSTON, September 12, 2022 – Asia Society Texas kicked off its fall season with a celebration of Houston’s vibrant food scene, featuring a roster of local chefs curated by Evelyn Garcia and Henry Lu and whose star dishes reflected the diversity of the city.

Freshly finalist in Bravo’s Grand Chief: Houston season, García and co-head of byKIN HTX, Lu, headlined the tasting tour at AST. The festive evening invited guests to explore the different spaces of the Center and meet the 14 chefs representing nine different restaurants or small businesses.

In the Great Hall, the EMA HTX’s Stephanie Velazquez and Nicolas Vera served Zacahuil Tamal while burger-chan’s Diane and Willet Feng prepared their GMA Slider, which had already been featured on hello america“United States of Burger Competition”. The upstairs education center hosted Dumpling Haus’ Ellen won, Ashley Laiand Amiley Lai prepare spicy Sichuan noodles; kitchen street Benchawan Jabthong Painter serve beef brisket with green curry; Click on Virtual Food Hall’s Gabriel Medina presentation of Monggo Guisado; ChòpnBlọk’s Op Amosu share Golden Blok Pairing; and García and Lu making salmon ceviche. Dessert was served on the water garden terrace, where the Koffeteria Vanarin Kuch presented Goat’s Cheesecake with Blueberry Compote and Butter Baby Bakery’s Karen DeGuzman served Halo Halo Cake Shooters. Guests also enjoyed drinks offered by Asahi beer and Desert Gate Distillery.
