Macon County High School student, 15, identified as drowning victim

MACON COUNTY, Tennessee (WKRN) – Macon County Schools identified 15-year-old Lorena Orduna Martinez, a freshman at Macon County High School, as a victim of drowning in a swimming hole.

Macon County High School will have counselors available for any student who may need help or assistance regarding the loss of Martinez on Tuesday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in room 204. at (615) 666- 4474.

Macon County High School will be holding a Martinez Memorial Vigil at 6 p.m. on Saturday June 12 in front of the school.

The Macon County Sheriff’s Office told News 2 that Martinez and a 32-year-old man drowned in a swimming hole near Westford Creek Road in Westmoreland around 11:30 p.m. Thursday night.

The man was having trouble swimming and Martinez went into the water to help save him, but they both drowned. The male victim was taken out of the water around midnight and Martinez was picked up around 1:30 a.m.

Witnesses at the scene told MPs the two swimmers were friends. No additional information was immediately released.
