SWENext High School Leadership Academy (SHLA) wraps up a successful 2020-2021 program cohort in June. Going through a difficult year, this program has improved its reach with the ability to provide tons of virtual leadership training and development content available to high school students around the world! New to SHLA and want to learn more about how to get involved? Click here.
We had the wonderful opportunity to work with one of SHLA’s sponsors, the Motorola Solutions Foundation, to build a panel of engineering professionals from different backgrounds and career levels. Discover this session entitled “Careers in Public Safety”!
In this discussion, each panelist was able to share their experiences of working in the public security sector. Panelists discussed their department’s area of interest in improving technologies that make a big difference in emergency response situations. SHLA participants stated that they were 100% satisfied with the quality of the speakers and 92% felt that this session had a positive impact on their development. You can view the recording on demand and other sessions like this one via SWENext TV here.
Hear from the panelists below on how they felt about this session:
Thank you SWE for inviting us to interact with the high school girls. The girls were very engaged and asked great questions of the panelist. The event was very well planned and executed by Markita Riley and her team. We look forward to future collaborations with SWENext to promote STEM education among young people.
It was a pleasure to be part of the SHLA session on “Careers in Public Safety”. SWE has done a great job of showing that the engineering profession offers a diversity of career opportunities. Thank you to SWE for giving me the opportunity to share my professional journey as an engineer.
Thank you very much for inviting me to be part of this wonderful panel! The girls’ questions were excellent and I really enjoyed chatting with the other panelists about what they learned during their professional journey. I love what SWE is doing, and I hope the impact will continue to grow!

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity. I enjoyed sharing my experiences with the group and was impressed by the students’ interest in learning more about user experience design and career prospects and courses to help build a career in it. field. Kudos to SWE for giving them the opportunity to meet people from the industry and hear about our day-to-day here at Motorola Solutions.
Special thanks to Kirti Maheshwari and her team for developing the next generation of STEM leaders, engineers and professionals! Learn more about what the Motorola Solutions Foundation is doing to improve the lives of communities here.
