NUC University, in its commitment to continue to innovate and optimize the quality of services to its learning community, recently signed an agreement with the Office of the Ombudsman for Women (OPM by its Spanish acronym). This agreement will allow the institution to integrate a variety of educational activities to raise awareness of what and how to prevent violence against women.
This engagement advances NUC University’s inclusion agenda on issues that affect our society. The University’s objective is to develop educated, enterprising individuals, competent in their professional fields, with attitudes to continue learning throughout life.
“The Office of Student Affairs will be responsible for the formalization and implementation of this agreement. Since last January, our students have had the opportunity to participate in various workshops ranging from dating violence prevention to laws that protect women. Every second Tuesday of each month will be devoted to these topics. We are committed to the holistic development of students, providing them with services that empower them, highlighting their potential and helping them achieve their academic goals, all of this taking into account the exogenous factors that affect them ”, explained Rosalind Martínez Viscovich, Director General of Student Affairs and Efficiency at NUC University.
For his part, Michael W. Bannett, President of NUC University, said: “We are very pleased to enter into this agreement with the Office of the Ombudsman for Women of Puerto Rico. The role of women in modern society is more present in academic, political, commercial and scientific fields, among others. At the University, 67% of our students are women and we recognize their ability to overcome challenges and be successful in whatever field they decide to take on.
“The aim of this agreement is to bring a direct message to young people, to empower women and to provide the necessary tools for education against gender violence”, according to Lersy Boria Vizcarrondo, Esq., Ombudsperson for women.
