Food-A-Rama Great Valu of Manteo awarded its 17e Annual Large Scholarship Scholarship for Large Students to Owen Clark de Manteo.
The independent owners of Great Valu supermarkets subscribe to the Great Scholarships for Great Students program, which has awarded more than $ 487,000 in scholarships to date. It is through this scholarship program that Great Valu Stores recognize high school students’ commitment to their education and community. The Great Scholarships for Great Students program enables a deserving high school student in each retail market, in addition to a number of store associates across the marketing group, to receive a $ 1,000 scholarship to help cover the cost of post-secondary education.
The program is managed by the Great Valu scholarship committee, which selected the winners. The applicants represented a cross section of exceptional seniors from all markets served by Great Valu stores, making it difficult to select final fellows, a press release said. Selections were made based on various considerations including grade level, averages, extracurricular activities, and individual life challenges of the students.
The independently owned and operated Great Valu stores actively support the scholarship program as a way to strengthen commitments to the communities they serve. Great Valu stores are supplied by UNFI, a leader in the grocery industry, which serves customers in stores across the country. The UNFI Atlantic Region is based in Mechanicsville, Virginia.
