School administration and human resources management process

The administration establishes policies that guide decision-making and sets laws and regulations. It is an operational process by which an educational institution is kept in good working order. In other words, school management is the set of resource, communication, and task management processes involved in managing a school system.

The American Association of School Administration describes administration as “the set of processes by which appropriate human and material resources are made available and made effective in achieving the purpose of an enterprise”. Often, school administration focuses on planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, monitoring and evaluating student performance, directing student education, developing curriculum and managing the resources of the educational institution to achieve specific goals. Every social institution has its objectives and in the same way the school administration also has its objectives. Some of its main goals include educating students, ensuring resource utilization, measuring student performance, and promoting student success.

Among the objectives stated above, let’s try to analyze the second objective, namely the use of resources. Let’s first look at the resources of the School’s administration. The various important resources of school administration include students, faculty, non-teaching staff, physical infrastructure (library, classrooms, laboratory, playground, etc.). In general, the first three are human resources and the fourth material resources. The school administrator must properly use all human and material resources in order to effectively achieve the specific objectives.

As we know that school administration needs integration and coordination of all physical and human resources and educational elements, it requires great efficiency that is based on sympathy, understanding, knowledge and skills human. Physical resources mainly contribute to construction equipment and teaching materials. Human resources include students, teachers, supervisors, administrators and parents. Additional elements include various aspects of educational theory and practice, including philosophy of education, aims of education, curriculum, teaching method, discipline, role of teacher, rules and regulations, etc.

These elements are “parts” transformed into “whole” and are components brought into harmonious relationship. Thus, the purpose of such a vital task is to fulfill different goals, the goals of the school administration including providing proper education to the students. This objective aims to mention the fact that a good education does not mean an education at a very high cost as is practiced in modern public schools. Rather, it means the right kind of education delivered by the right kind of teachers at a reasonable cost.

It also means ensuring adequate use of all resources because, for the adequate achievement of the various objectives of the educational program, it is necessary to ensure adequate use of all available resources – human, material and financial.

It also works to ensure the professional ethics and professional development of teachers, as teachers are the senior and mature human elements to accelerate the program in time and their role is strongly felt in this regard. They need to be encouraged and given the opportunity to develop and try innovative ideas in education and to participate in service education programs. In this context, one can imagine that the administration of education should aim to develop in teachers a desire for hard work, dedication and commitment to their work.

Another objective is to organize educational programs to familiarize students with the art of democratic living and to give them excellent training in democratic citizenship.

The management of human resources in relation to the school can be summarized as follows: developing a job description. It should be precise and well-written, as it helps clarify skills, knowledge and experience, advertise the position, choose a media platform like a newspaper, electronic media, etc. It also requires receiving and screening applications to choose suitable candidates and conduct interviews. with suitable candidates to make a selection decision.

In our country, the same is done systematically as stated above. But what is debatable concerning the management of human resources in our schools is that they do not present all the characteristics that are well anchored in Western countries. For example, in Western countries, the school principal when evaluating the performance of teachers uses a creative and preventive type of supervision in order to strengthen the aptitude of their juniors (teachers) who in turn proves beneficial in achieving specific school objectives. On the other hand, in India, including in our J&K UT, most school managers consider themselves bosses and forget that they are one of the components of the same social institution like the others. Thus, they mainly use corrective type supervision in order to satisfy their ego and enjoy their supremacy in such institutions. Principals, in doing so, limit the specific goals that a school must achieve, as said behavior of the principal can be a stumbling block in the path of a teacher’s suitability.

So, keeping in mind the things stated above, our principals should always try to encourage the efforts of their juniors, as this will automatically lead an institution to achieve its specific goals in a much better way.
