To Meet High Demand, Lihue COVID Testing Site Will Open During MLK Holidays

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – With demand for COVID testing remaining high across the state, providers are scrambling to meet the need.

In Kauai, county officials announced that the War Memorial Convention Hall test site will remain open Monday, although it is the Martin Luther King. Junior Holidays.

The test site is open from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and operates on a ticket system. Ticket distribution begins at 8 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis and aims to reduce long queues.

Rapid PCR tests are offered there with same-day results. County officials want to remind the public that the Convention Hall testing site is not for those with symptoms. For those who are, they are encouraged to get tested at a drive-thru or clinical site.

“Mahalo to all the staff and volunteers who work tirelessly at Convention Hall to help keep our community safe,” said Kauai Mayor Derek Kawakami. “We thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and all of our frontline health workers, for your continued efforts.”
